Dos and Don'ts
What you can recycle - green waste
What you can recycle - food waste
(check with your council first before recycling your food waste in the green bin, if they don’t accept it, set up a home compost bin)
What you can't recycle
All participating council collection services allow grass clippings, weeds (including ivy), vines, leaves, plant cuttings and small branches to be recycled. Check your local council’s program for other items accepted in your green waste bin.
It’s important not to contaminate your bin with rubbish like wire and string, or plastic bags and nappies, even if they are labelled 'biodegradable' or 'compostable'. By recycling correctly, you make the process easier and help to produce higher quality soil conditioners for agriculture. This means healthier crops and pastures.
Check your local council's website to see what you can or can’t recycle in your area.
